Did you know that together, hot water and heating account for 67% of energy use in New Zealand homes?
These home essentials are vital, especially through winter, but together they account for the majority of our home energy bills and energy use, which is why Lite Energy offers an alternative option for heating and hot water that greatly reduces power bills and the environmental impact for everyday Kiwis.
It’s a hot water heat pump, the Mitsubishi Ecodan model, and it uses industry-leading technology that heats water by using the same process as a heat pump to heat air, to heat your water, greatly increasing efficiency and reducing energy usage!
Why invest in a hot water heat pump?
The Ecodan hot water heat pump is a super energy-efficient and quiet model that replaces traditional energy-hungry heat pumps and hot water heating systems.
Compared with traditional systems, the Ecodan can save as much as 70% off your hot water and heating costs, and help you enjoy the peace of mind of making a positive change for the environment. Hot water heat pumps have already become the norm in Japan and Europe, and as New Zealanders are often quick to embrace new energy-efficient technology, it won’t be long before countless homes and businesses around the country make the switch and start saving on their power bills as well.
While it is always an investment to switch to a new system, it has been estimated that standard use of a hot water heat pump will pay itself off in just four years. For large homes with frequent hot water use, the payback period is even shorter.
And it’s not just for hot water heating, either. A hot water heat pump can power the whole home, including:
How does a hot water heat pump work?
The Ecodan hot water heat pump uses three key components to provide super energy efficiency for the whole home; a hot water cylinder, an outdoor unit, and smart energy controls.
The Ecodan outdoor unit is the powerhouse of this highly efficient system. Much like a standard heat pump, it absorbs warmth from the air outdoors and transfers this to your home in the form of energy that can power your underfloor heating, radiators, and hot water cylinder.
The hot water cylinder is an all-in-one system that provides continuous hot water for your home, and is designed to work with the Ecodan outdoor unit. However, you can connect an existing hot water cylinder to the Ecodan outdoor unit with an Ecodan Hyrdobox module.
Finally, the Smart Energy Control is a small control system that allows you to monitor and maximise your energy use. It is intuitive, easy to use and allows you to control the temperature in individual rooms for personalised heating and comfort.
Overall, this three-part system offers a significantly higher coefficient of performance (COP). This is a measure of how much heat it creates compared with how much energy it takes. For every 1kW of energy consumption (which it uses to absorb exterior warmth), it provides the home with an average of 3.2kW of heat output. To put that in perspective, typical gas and electric heating systems only provide 0.82kW of heat output, making them far less efficient (and expensive).
