Saving the planet and your power bill one lamp at a time.

More and more frequently people are making the jump to LED lamps and leaving behind the old Halogen and fluorescent relics of the past. Why is this you ask? Well mainly because the technology has improved so much that we can now have affordable LED lighting solutions for almost every application. Lets take a look at the benefits of LED’s and why you should consider upgrading to them.

Efficiency

LED’s are currently the most energy efficient source of light on the market with a 80-90% efficiency ratio – This means that 80/90% of energy in LED’s are converted into light while only 10/20% is converted into heat. Compare this to your standard incandescent lamp which has roughly a 5-10% efficiency ratio (which means they need more energy to produce the same amount of light as a lower wattage LED) you can see how much better LED’s are.

Lifespan

The Average LED lamp lasts around 25,000-50,000 Hours. Compare this to only around 1,000 hours for an incandescent lamp and around 10,000 hours for a compact fluorescent lamp. This means you will be saving money in the long run due to not having to replace the lamp and/or call an electrician to swap them out.

Upgrading

LED’s come in many forms – You have standard LED lamps for replacing older styles right up to new LED flood/street lighting and LED strips. There is an LED equivalent now to every lighting solution so no need to completely remove old light fittings if you want to upgrade to LED’s. We will find the equivalent LED lamp that will match your fitting or something more stylish if that’s what you would like. Contact us today to see how we can help you.

Controllability and Smart technology

With advances in smart technology we are seeing more and more “smart” LED’s coming into the market. With smart technology LED’s you are able to program/control your lighting from your computer or mobile phone to perform a variety of functions, some of these include turning on at certain times of the day/night, dimming on voice command for certain situations (e.g cinema mode) and colour changing. If you want more control over your lighting options or are thinking of converting to a smart home then LED’s are the way to go.

Ecological

LED’s do not contain toxic materials such as mercury or other dangerous metals and are 100% recyclable reducing waste and damage to the environment. If you are in the market to reduce your carbon footprint then LED’s are much better and safer.

The Bad – (ish)

There is one minor con to LED’s depending on how you look at it and that is a higher initial capital cost than other light fittings on the market – BUT – If you look at the long term benefits LED’s are a much more economical lighting option as they last longer and use much less energy saving money over a greater period of time.

Conclusion

In conclusion LED’s (in our opinion) are the best lighting option currently on the market and people should be making the jump even if it is just by buying LED lamps and changing out those old Incandescent or energy saver fluorescent lamps.
