While your heat pump may appear to be working correctly heat pump servicing is a very important part of maintenance for your machine to ensure its efficiency.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can reduce the performance of your heat pump, and over time could lead to the equipment faulting.
Can I Do It Myself?
There are certain things that you as the homeowner can do to help with the maintenance of your heat pump.
Making sure the outdoor unit is completely clear of any vegetation build-up is important.
This is a common issue that when neglected for a while can start to interfere with the airflow and may even impact the functionality of the fan inside the outdoor unit. Keeping this area clear is something worth checking every so often.
Another easy thing to check is the filters in the indoor unit. These filters help keep the air clean but of course, this means they will get a build-up of all the dirty particles you do not want to be breathing in. Cleaning the filters is simply a case of popping the cover up, removing each filter, and giving them a good clean.
So Why Get A Service?
While these checks do help with making sure your system stays clean and efficient having a heat pump serviced by a qualified person ensures not only the tidiness of the installation but the functionality at a technical level.
A proper service will cover all the cleaning checks as described above but will go into much more technical tests such as examining for any leakages, making sure there are correct gas levels and pressure in your system, and checking the airflow and air temperatures coming off the fan.
Although the checks you can do yourself may only need to be looked at every few months, we recommend getting an annual Heat Pump Service to ensure the efficiency and functionality of your system and to catch any potential issues before they become major problems.
